Design Zone

Design Zone is a 6,000 square foot exhibition that will be retiring soon.  Design Zone includes a detailed technical manual, education/staff guide, and a marketing kit.  It has traveled to some of North America's most prestigious science centers over the past 8 years.  This exhibition has been meticulously maintained while on the road and through thorough in-house refurbishments.  It is beautiful, engaging, and easy to maintain.

Discover that math isn't just a subject in school--it's a fundamental, creative tool that artists and engineers use to design and invent?  Design Zone highlights the relationship between mathematical thinking and the creative process in art, music, and engineering, and poses real-world challenges.  Each thematic area draws visitors into the world of music production, video game development, and extreme sports that directly and experientially relate mathematical concepts.  Design Zone has a wide visitor appeal and was developed for families, school groups, and ages 10-14.

Exhibit - Vanishing Cowboys

About the exhibit

Exploration Place created a popular Americana traveling exhibition, The Vanishing Cowboy, that has both historical and universal appeal.

Photographed by the father and son team of Jim and Chris Bertoglio, the native Kansans captured the iconic symbol of the American West – the cowboy. Their stunning photographs reveal the daily lives of the remaining ranchers on the Great Plains. The exhibition celebrates the fading, but enduring, image of the cowboy that has been overshadowed by industrialization and urbanization. The Bertoglios photograph both personal moments and expansive landscapes of working cowboys, their horses, and cattle. The collection of photographs enhances our understanding of ranching culture and encourages viewers to appreciate this vanishing way of life.
